Well I did some designing and decided on a structure. Below is a deck I made up from plywood and 19mm radiata pine. I've made it 50% of the size of the Audi replica (which is quarter scale). Should fit my kids ok.
I don't want to copy the original exactly, but hopefully you can see where I am going here. The wheels are from a cheap 'handtruck' that can be brought from Supercheap Auto or the like for about twenty dollars.
Kick steering for now. If the kids get a taste of a steering wheel my keys will go missing...

I recently saw one of these at Audi Richmond, and fell in love.
But the price is steep - $17,000! I am sure I can build one, and motorise it, for a hundredth with change...
